Where to Stay
During Bear Week
Where you stay can completely change your Bear Week.
Sitges is small and very walkable, but during Bear Week a few extra minutes can make a real difference — especially when you're going back and forth between the beach, the centre and your accommodation.
Before choosing a hotel or apartment, I'd start with one question: what do you want to be close to?
START WITH LOCATION
If Bear Week is your priority
Look around central Sitges and the Old Town, within easy walking distance of Passeig de la Ribera. You'll be close to the main Bear Week atmosphere at night, as well as restaurants, shops and services.
If Balmins is your priority
Staying closer to Balmins makes the beach much easier, especially when you're carrying everything you need for the day. The trade-off is a longer walk when you want to be in central Sitges later on.
If you want something in between
Bear Week has two very different sides: Balmins during the day and central Sitges later on.
Staying closer to one usually means walking a little further to the other, so there isn't one perfect area for everyone. The best location depends on what you want to make easier.
Where you stay matters
The area around Platja de Sant Sebastià can give you a useful middle ground between Balmins and central Sitges.
MY TAKE
“One thing I'd still pay attention to is the exact street. Carrer Bonaire and Carrer Joan Tarrida get extremely busy during Bear Week, so I'd rather stay nearby than directly on them.
If you're looking for a good balance between the beach and the nighttime action, I'd choose the Old Town.
You're close to Passeig de la Ribera and the central Bear Week area, with plenty of shops, restaurants and services around you. Balmins is still within walking distance, so you don't have to choose between being close to the beach and being close to the centre.
And there's another reason I like it: it's simply a beautiful part of Sitges to stay in, with its old streets, historic buildings and Mediterranean atmosphere.”

CHOOSING YOUR STAY
Hotel or apartment?
Both can work. The better choice depends on how you're travelling, how long you're staying and how much independence you want during the week.
Hotel
A hotel can make sense if you prefer a simpler stay, don't need much space and want the convenience of hotel services.
Apartment
An apartment can be particularly useful for longer stays or groups. More space, a kitchen and a washing machine can make a big difference over a week or two.
For larger groups, an apartment can also work out more affordably per person than booking several hotel rooms.

Choose location first. Then choose the accommodation type that works for how you're travelling.
THE SMALL THINGS MATTER
What I look for now
After a few Bear Weeks, I've become much more interested in the practical details of an accommodation than in how impressive it looks in the photos.
- Air conditioning
- A fridge
- A kitchen or stove, ideally
- A washing machine
- Somewhere to dry clothes
- Comfortable beds
- Good bathrooms
- Somewhere quiet enough to actually sleep
MY TAKE
Bear Week is tiring. By the end of the day, a good shower, a comfortable bed, clean clothes and a quiet room matter much more to me than a photogenic lobby.
LEARNED THE HARD WAY
My first Bear Week changed how I book
On my first trip, I stayed in an older hotel in central Sitges. The location worked well for the centre, but the room was small, the infrastructure was limited and Balmins was more than a twenty-minute walk away.
I later extended the trip, and availability became part of the problem. I ended up spending one day at Port Sitges Hotel in Port d'Aiguadolç and another two nights at Hotel Meliá, closer to Balmins.
That experience made the geography much clearer to me. Being close to Balmins can be great during the day, but you still need to think about how you'll get back from central Sitges later.
One rainy night, I couldn't find a taxi and ended up walking back from the Balmins area.
MY TAKE
A map can make two places look close. Bear Week has taught me to think about that distance at the end of the day — not just when I'm sitting at home booking the accommodation.
DON'T LEAVE IT TOO LATE
Good options disappear
Accommodation is one of the decisions I'd make early.
Bear Week creates a lot of demand in a small town, and waiting doesn't just affect price. It can also leave you choosing between places that are further away, less comfortable or simply not right for the way you want to experience the week.
