After a long flight, with your luggage beside you, is not the best moment to start comparing routes, connections and prices. Know your options beforehand and choose what makes sense for the way you're travelling.

Getting to Sitges

Getting from Barcelona Airport to Sitges isn't difficult. The part that can be confusing the first time is deciding how to do it.

Train, bus, taxi or private transfer can all get you there. What makes sense depends on how much you're carrying, how many people you're travelling with, where you're staying and how much you're willing to spend for convenience.

The important thing is to make that decision before you arrive at the airport.

Train, bus or transfer?

There's no single right answer.

The train is the cheapest. The bus gives you a direct journey at a relatively low cost. A taxi or private transfer is the easiest and most comfortable — but you'll pay considerably more for that convenience.

Your luggage, the number of people travelling with you and the location of your accommodation can completely change which option makes the most sense.

By train

The train is the cheapest way to get from Barcelona Airport to Sitges, with a single ticket costing roughly €5–7 per person.

But there's one important thing to understand: there is no direct train from Barcelona Airport to Sitges.

If you're at Terminal 2, take the R2 Nord from the airport to El Prat de Llobregat. There, you'll change to the R2 Sud towards Sitges.

If your flight arrives at Terminal 1, there's an extra step: you'll first need to take the airport's free shuttle bus to Terminal 2, where the train station is located.

Once you arrive in Sitges, the train station is conveniently located close to the town centre.

MY FIRST TIME

My first trip by train
to Sitges

The first time I went to Bear Week, I took the train.

I was travelling with large suitcases, and that changed the experience completely. Making the connection while carrying everything wasn't particularly comfortable, and once the trains became crowded, dealing with large luggage made things even more difficult.

The train itself wasn't the problem. My luggage was.

And that's an important distinction. Travelling alone with a small suitcase or backpack is very different from arriving with large bags for a longer stay.

MY TAKE

I wouldn't rule out the train. I'd rule it in or out based on what I'm carrying.

With light luggage, the price is hard to beat. With large suitcases after a long flight, saving money may not feel quite as important once you're changing trains with everything you brought with you.

By bus

BusGarraf operates a direct service between Barcelona Airport and Sitges, making the bus an interesting middle ground between the train and a private transfer.

The fare is around €9–10 per person, and unlike the train, there's no connection to make.

There's an important difference once you reach Sitges, though. The bus makes several stops around town rather than taking everyone to the train station. Depending on the service, these can include Can Robert, Av. Sofia, La Masia, Càmping Sitges and Rocamar.

That can actually make the bus particularly useful if you're staying outside the historic centre — but you need to know which stop is convenient for your accommodation.

If you don't know the geography of Sitges yet, check your stop on a map before travelling. Depending on where you're staying, you may still have a walk — or need a taxi — for the final part of the journey.

By private transfer or taxi

If comfort is your priority, this is the easiest and usually the fastest option.

A taxi or private transfer takes you directly from Barcelona-El Prat Airport to your accommodation in Sitges, with no connections and no need to carry your luggage between trains or stops.

The journey typically takes around 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs roughly €55–80, depending on the company, vehicle and service.

You can take a regular taxi directly from the official taxi rank outside the airport terminal, or pre-book a private transfer before travelling.

With a private transfer, your journey is already arranged when you land. Pre-booked services commonly use a fixed fare, which may also include the C-32 motorway toll.

MY TAKE

For me, there isn't one best option.

If I'm staying in central Sitges, both the train and the bus make sense. I can arrive and walk to my accommodation with my luggage.

If I'm staying further away — or simply don't want to drag my bags through the streets after a flight — I'll probably need a taxi for the last part of the journey anyway.

And that's when I'd seriously consider a private transfer, particularly if I'm travelling with other people. Split the cost, and the convenience of going straight from the airport to the door of your accommodation can suddenly be well worth it.
